The hyssop plant is known for its medicinal value, as the oil this plant produces has been used to ease the physical sufferings of man for centuries. So while it has been widely accepted in many cultures as a healing balm, its cleansing properties were given as a prophetic picture of the purifying work that flows through the blood of My Son.
Then upon the moment of Passover, when I commanded My people to cover their doorposts with the blood of a spotless lamb, it was a branch from this humble shrub that they used to apply it, for this was a symbolic picture of what Christ’s death would accomplish, when He became the sacrificial Lamb for the whole of humanity, where the sins of mankind knew complete atonement.
And so the choosing of this plant was not a random act, for within its holistic benefits, a greater spiritual significance was brought forth, as it was the antiseptic components flowing through its stems that spoke to the healing work done on the Cross. While the sour wine offered to Jesus on a hyssop branch was a fulfillment of Scripture (”They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst….”), the culmination of each messianic prophecy came to be when the Savior cried out “It is finished!”
It was upon His death that the world was purged of sin, for the weight of man’s iniquities now rested on Him, and therefore, those that cry out with a sincere heart of repentance who would not be denied, for He paid the full price of sin’s demand.
What reason then is there for any to perish? For the acceptance of Him as Savior is to forfeit the certainty of eternal damnation, as there is no hope for those who are not cleansed through the washing of His blood. Yet because most cannot see their great need, nor comprehend what the sacrifice of His life means for them, sadly, this road to redemption shall only be traveled by a few, as the full magnitude of their decision to reject salvation shall not be felt until it is too late. For surely, once the door of this life has been closed, this choice is final.
So to be numbered among those who have known complete restoration (those whose soul’s have been purified so stand cleansed of the ramifications of sin), can only be known when the blood of My true Son, the firstborn of many brethren, has been marked upon the doorposts of their life.
Therefore, let all who are willing, kneel before My Son, the Lamb of God, and surrender your heart to Him. For it is through Him, and Him alone, that your life can be re-born: purged of every sin, as one who is fully forgiven, and who shall dwell with Him forever in paradise.
“Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.” -Psalm 51:7-9
