Mary stated, “May it happen to me according to thy word”, and so it was. For when the angel Gabriel came before her declaring My intentions, this handmaiden of the Lord agreed, even though her assent to My will would immediately challenge her faith, for who would believe her story that the child she carried was conceived by the Spirit?
But because of My intervention, this daughter of God found favor in the eyes of man, and so was not cast out like most women in her condition would have been during those days.
Much is not known about the mother of Christ, for she was just a simple girl, common or ordinary according to earthly standards. However, when I choose someone to partner with the work I am doing in the world, this choice has nothing to do with their reputation or how they are regarded in society. For what I seek is a willing heart, one who will say “yes” to the vision I have cast.
Although many have placed this humble handmaiden in a position of honor, where her name is lifted in prayers like a deity, she was only the human vessel I selected to birth the Savior: the One who would save the whole world.
Then all those who are spoken of in the Scriptures, other than Christ, are only regular people who were asked to take steps of faith. Yet it was their obedience to My will that opened the space for the miraculous to happen, and to then see My promises fulfilled.
So because I am unchanging in all of My ways, the manner in which I bring forth My plans is by partnering with those who will heed My voice and adhere to My instructions. I designed My will to unfold through the cooperation of man, where once I cast a vision for the future, those who are willing take up My cause.
But who among My flock today will step beyond the boundaries man sets as logical? Who among them is open to walking down a pathway that is marked with impossibility and uncertainty? How many of My children would volunteer to join Me on an expedition such as this?
Unfortunately, since it is a small number, very few from My Kingdom shall experience for themselves a life filled with awe and wonder. This is because most are not inclined to let go of the safe life they have created, where “reasonable thinking” guides their choices, and banality fills their days.
However, as it was with Mary, so it is with all whom I approach, for unto each one is given the choice to agree to partner with My will. For even in the case of Christ’s mother, I did not force her to yield to Me because she, too, had the freedom to decline My invitation and refuse to bear the Son of God. Although I had already foreseen her response, nonetheless, she still had to decide to partner with the promise I had spoken over her life. Then to lay hold of this certain future meant standing in faith, for surely she would soon find herself in untenable circumstances, where she would have no way to defend her reputation, or prove it was the Messiah who was growing in her womb.
Despite of the challenges her choice involved, Mary did not hesitate when giving her response, for her faith in Me outweighed her fear of the suffering that might befall her, for even after counting the cost, in her heart she still said “yes”. And while her name in history shall forever be synonymous with one of the greatest miracles known to man, she was still just a person like every other human being. What truly made her exceptional was not of this world, for it was My divine will working through her life that elevated her to this place of distinction.
Then who, upon understanding how My purposes flow in this world, will take a bold leap of faith the next time I put forth a challenge, knowing now that within each of their lives rests the possibility for the miraculous? While none will ever have the same experience of Me as did Mary, within each of My children dwells the faith to birth an exceptional life, one that glorifies Me and exemplifies Christ.
Therefore, let go of all your inhibitions, and any cautious thoughts which keep you from freely running into these broad fields of faith. For here in this wide open space is where the impossible happens, yet is only discoverable by those whose hearts are willing to trust Me with their fate.
“The angel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. So the angel told her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever. His kingdom will never end!” “How can this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God. Look, even Elizabeth, your relative, has conceived a son in her old age, and she who was called barren is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.“ I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it happen to me according to your word.” Then the angel left her.” Luke 1:28-38
